The DD GrassMaster concept is ingenious in its simplicity. It combines nature and technology. DD GrassMaster is synonymous for a field that remains in perfect condition, a pitch of 100% natural grass, reinforced by 20 million artificial grass fibers.

Before the DD GrassMaster surface is installed, the old pitch is dug out and additional drainage facilities (in some cases also heating elements) are incorporated into the subsoil. On a well-draining, stable foundation layer, a top layer of sand, enriched with compost but arid, is laid for an even better water balance. The foundation and top layer are then connected, after which the grass can be sown. If the pitch needs to be played on quickly, sods can be used (then the turf can naturally be laid). The next step is to inject and anchor the artificial grass fibers using a computer-controlled machine developed by Desso Sports Systems. The fibers are inserted at a depth of 20 cm in the soil, and project 1.5 to 2 cm above the ground. As the roots of the natural grass intertwine with the fibers, a sturdy construction is obtained, guaranteeing maximum stability and fast regeneration.

A DD GrassMaster pitch not only looks like any other natural grass pitch, it also feels 100% natural to players. Sliding tackles are no problem. There is no increased risk of injury and the physical demands on players are no higher than on a traditional natural grass pitch. Damping, impact characteristics and ball behavior are also identical to a natural grass pitch. The unique character of the sport of football, soccer, rugby or baseball can be fully experienced on a DD GrassMaster pitch. DD GrassMaster pitches are used internationally by professional clubs and many matches have already been played with support of UEFA and FIFA.

1. Thanks to its coarse, sandy subbase, a DD GrassMaster pitch offers excellent water permeability. The artificial grass fibers stimulate good vertical drainage of rainwater. No mud baths on the field.

A DD GrassMaster pitch provides an extremely high degree of stability and shear resistance because the natural grass roots entangle themselves around the artificial grass fibers. One of the major advantages of a DD GrassMaster pitch is that the pitch can be used far more frequently. Approximately 250 match-hours per year are played on a normal soccer pitch, on a DD GrassMaster pitch the total may exceed 900 hours, taking into account match and training use.
