DD GrassMaster is a revolutionary invention, whereby the natural grass surface and root system are stabilized by synthetic fibers. The fibers act like indestructible grass blades, protecting the natural grass and thus preventing divots and mud holes. A DD GrassMaster pitch can be used for sports like football, soccer, rugby and baseball for numerous events without the area wear that is seen on normal sand based natural grass fields.
Yes, a DD GrassMaster pitch is a normal natural grass field. The surface is a 100% natural grass field. The amount of artificial grass fibers added is approximately 3%. The field looks completely natural when used by players and viewed by spectators. Because the field looks like any other natural grass field, many national and international sport federations allow DD GrassMaster for sports on the highest level.
The playing characteristics of a DD GrassMaster pitch are exactly the same as the characteristics of a “normal” natural grass surface. Playing on a DD GrassMaster surface is therefore exactly the same as playing on a normal natural grass surface. The players will not even know that they are playing on one of the most advanced sports fields possible. However they will be surprised about the excellent quality of the pitch in the winter period and after some playing seasons.
The DD GrassMaster system has numerous components: 1. Medium fine - medium coarse rootzone sand (90/10 sand to organic)
DD GrassMaster uses no horizontal components that will cause layering in the sub base. It is a vertical reinforced system, the ideal combination of a very permeable but also extremely stabile surface and sub base.
The lifetime of a DD GrassMaster pitch completely depends on the maintenance. A normal sand based field can last over 20 years, a DD GrassMaster pitch certainly lasts as long.
DD GrassMaster fibers have been used for decades on normal synthetic fields. The fibers are 100% polypropylene without any heavy metals. The fibers will not leach or fad. Fewer fields are needed because DD GrassMaster increases the playing capacity of the surface. This means less land use, fewer fertilizers entering the environment and less fresh water being used.
A DD GrassMaster surface is suitable for different sports, in fact it’s suitable for any sport that is played on natural grass, e.g. football, soccer, rugby, golf, etc. Condition for intensive usage of the surface is the consequent, professional maintenance.
The annual DD GrassMaster field use amounts to approximately 850-900 hours. In comparison, a normal natural grass field can handle only 300 hours per year. On some heavily used pitches in The Netherlands, the DD GrassMaster surface is used for over 700 games per year. This equals about 1,300 hours of use in one year. One hour of use is 25 adult players wearing spikes using the playing surface for one hour.
You can play on a DD GrassMaster pitch during winter and frost, thanks to the high stability and resilient levels of the playing surface. However you should realize that this can result in damage to the natural grass. In case of prolonged periods of frost, it is therefore recommended that the field be spared, for the sake of the remaining playing season. Many DD GrassMaster fields have been equipped with an advanced undersoil heating system for winter usage.
A DD GrassMaster field plays best with normal football or rugby shoes.
The natural grass can be mowed to a height of 3.5-4 cm. The DD GrassMaster fibers are exposed 2 cm above the surface, therefore mowing will not harm the artificial grass fibers. There are some stadium examples where the grass is cut as low as 2.5 cm.
